Tesco Extra

Tesco wins this week with its Brislington, Bristol store gaining 84 points. The “very busy” store had an “excellent range” of services which all looked “very well staffed”. Our shopper liked the “popular” and “useful” counter services. Staff were “knowledgeable” and “really polite and helpful”. The store also had full availability.

Waitrose in Ealing was also “very busy”. The shopper “really liked the layout” and found it easy to find the items she was looking for. It scored full marks for availability but lost points after it took our shopper seven minutes to be served at checkout.

Sainsbury’s in Gloucester Quays felt “spacious and clean” and offered a “large product range” but suffered from a “lack of staff around the store”. When our shopper did find someone to assist her, she felt they “didn’t want to help”. She also found the layout did not “flow” or feel “intuitive”.

Morrisons in Perth seemed to be in need of restocking as there were “empty shelves throughout the store”. The store itself appeared to need “some maintenance work” and looked “old-fashioned”. It had five unavailable items and the shopper left feeling “disappointed”.

Asda in Preston, Lancashire was “pleasant to shop in” and “quite busy”. While most shelves were full there were some at the ends of aisles that were “almost bare”. Customer service was hit and miss, with most employees described as “very friendly and helpful” but one who advised our shopper to go to customer services rather than checking in the stockroom. Checkout queues were long.
