The bacon market enjoyed “very very good business” before the bank holiday according to traders.

But across the board there is a shortage of raw material with the multiples “not getting all they want”.

The Danes reported leg and gammon prices as unchanged with backs up 11p/pound.

“People had a good weekend and are now restocking briskly. Now we are waiting for trade to drop when the schools go back.”

The Dutch said Holland had been hit by shortages due to the hot weather slowing the fattening of pigs. Prices were up again, with the bulk trade “ticking over nicely”.
