Two new member countries have been admitted to Amitom, the international tomato processing industry association. Algeria and Jordan took their places alongside Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Israel, Tunisia and Turkey at the third World Tomato Processing Congress in Pamplona. Algeria produces between 400,000t and 500,000t of processed tomato a year, against a domestic demand for half a million tonnes, making it a net importer. Jordan produces 120,000t to 150,000t a year, well in excess of its normal domestic needs. {{PROVISIONS }}
