Pineapple canners in Thailand are having problems with smaller fruit due to unusual climatic conditions. Some sizes of the popular ring counts are scarce, in particular the one kilo eight count.

Since last year, when Thai growers faced flooding, raw material has been a problem. Prices have risen, but the weak dollar has kept steep increases at bay. Alternative supplies have been available from South Africa, albeit at a premium.

Meanwhile, Spanish and Greek canners will be preparing for the deciduous season, which they hope will be better than last year, when bad weather hit supplies.
