Irn-Bru and Tizer manufacturer AG Barr has confirmed it would bid for Britvic if the rival soft drinks firm was put up for sale. Speculation is mounting that Bass will try to sell its controlling interest in Britvic by the end of the year. But Scottish soft drinks company Barr said it was only interested in Britvic's carbonated division, which would give it access to top selling brands such as Tango and R Whites, as well the UK licence for Pepsi. The news came as Barr revealed that pretax profit for the six months to July 29 was £7.9m, down from £8.2m in 1999. Sales were £58.2m down £149,000 on 1999. Barr blamed the lower profit on poor summer weather which affected sales. But chairman Robin Barr said August had seen the weather and sales improve. {{NEWS }}
