Organic soft drink brand Love Kombucha is launching a new on-the-go format after securing investment to ramp up production.
The 250ml glass bottles (rsp: £1.95), which debut at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair (7-9 September), are designed to open new retail markets for the brand and take it into foodservice.
Kombucha is a natural fizzy drink made from sweetened fermented green tea, and originates in China and Russia. It had built a following in the health food and Paleo Diet markets, said Love Kombucha founder Melanie Millin. Launched last September in 500ml glass bottles, Love Kombucha comprises original, blueberry, ginger, ginger & lime, and mango & lime (rsp: £3.45).
The company had secured an investor, which would enable it to quadruple production between now and Christmas, said Millin. It is adding two 1,000-litre fermentation tanks to its Newbury facility this month and is looking to add a further two before the end of the year.
Millin plans to continue supplying the 500ml bottles, currently stocked in about 36 independent retailers, and has recently started exporting to Sweden. l Joe’s Tea Co is expanding its premium organic tea range with whole leaf gunpowder tea Queen of Green (rsp: £4.50/15 bags), available from 7 September. Since launching at the Speciality & Fine Food Fair two years ago, the brand is now in over 150 stockists, including Planet Organic and Harvey Nichols, and exports to six European counties.
