The Pedigree Welsh Pig Society is hoping ‘Traditionally Reared Pedigree Welsh Pork’ will be registered under the EU Protected Food Name Scheme.

The organisation submitted an application to Defra to consider registering it as a Traditional Specialty Guaranteed item and is awaiting the results of its consultation.

“Generating greater demand should secure the future of the breed,” said Ken Stebbings, chairman of the Pedigree Welsh Pig Society.
