Low melon prices last season has caused Spanish Galia growers to radically cut back production by 20% this season in an effort to stabilise prices. At present fruit is being sold on the UK markets at £2 to £3 per carton. Almeria, which has a marketing season from April to mid June, dropped by 300ha to under 2,000, while Murcia, which takes over until the end of July, saw a 500ha drop to 3,000ha. Late season fruit grown around Cadiz has remained stable. {{FRESH PRODUCE }}
