Spar is to raise money for Help For Heroes by becoming the first retailer to sell a tea brand normally only drunk by the armed forces.
Some 80 retailers in the north of England are to start selling Naafi Break tea as part of a deal struck with Spar wholesaler James Hall & Co.
For every pack sold, 50p will be donated to the charity, which helps wounded servicemen and women.
“Our famous Naafi tea has been the beverage of choice for the British Armed Forces since 1921 and we are delighted to work with Spar to ensure it is widely available for everyone to enjoy for the first time in our history,” said Naafi CEO Reg Curtis.
Naafi is in discussions with other retailers about similar initiatives. Later in the year it plans to produce a retro-style mug and tea caddies to mark the 90th anniversary of the organisation.
