Spar is to roll out a new off licence offering to cash in on an 11% year-on-year growth in wine sales.

From this month and following tests at a store in Ormskirk, the fresh look and design will feature a chilled section plus a new feature area for the “top ten wines”. This will be linked to a wine information area and focus on “the everyday occasions” which people buy wine for.

Add-on options include buying by the case and glass hire.

The move follows a review by the symbol group of its marketing plans, which include new TV ads, changes to the exterior of stores, as well as a range of own label fresh family meal solutions.
