Salmon steaks helped Ocado to walk away with this quarter’s star performer accolade. It was one of only two retailers to deliver the salmon stipulated on our list, giving it a full basket and helping it to pip rival Sainsbury to the top spot. Its decision to target consumers who have been put off by bad online shopping experiences (The Grocer, May 29) appears a good one in light of some of the performances in this quarter’s survey.
Our shopper thought the website was “great” and noted the reason it took over an hour to order was purely down to the fact she was an online novice so took time locating the exact products we stipulated. She felt the site was easy to navigate with clear choices but would have liked more details on where the fresh fruit and vegetables had come from - a gripe made by many of our shoppers this time.
The “cheerful and efficient” delivery man came half an hour early. The final total came in just 19p more than the estimate. The total of £44.14 reflected the choice of three individual Green Giant niblets at £1.53, as Ocado did not sell the cheaper three-pack, an extra mature instead of mature Cheddar, and the £4.49 bottle Banrock Station Shiraz/ Mataro, the cheapest red wine our shopper could find.
