One of Argos’s new fulfilment sites

Argos has opened two new fulfilment centres in Birmingham and Reading in a bid to expand its Fast Track delivery service.

The two new centres, which together represent 200,000 sq ft of extra space, will enable Argos to offer same-day delivery to an extra six million households in the UK.

The retailer has also increased the number of products available for Fast Track delivery to 35,000.

Argos offers delivery within the space of four hours for a fee of £3.95, and also offers a free Fast Track click & collect service at its stores and 200 Sainsbury’s branches.

Over the past year, Fast Track delivery sales have shot up 31% and Fast Track collection sales increased by 57%.

Argos CEO John Rogers said the opening of the new centres was “great timing” as retailers prepared for Black Friday and Christmas.

“Our new Reading and Birmingham sites increase our Fast Track capacity across the UK significantly, which means we can get more products to more customers more quickly,” he said.

“We know that we see double-digit sales growth and increased footfall when sales from a Sainsbury’s in-store collection point are fulfilled through a regional fulfilment centre, so we are confident that this will have a significant, positive commercial impact as well as delighting our customers.”
