Iceland mince pies are now on sale in Selfridges as both retailers work towards removing palm oil from own-label products.
The palm oil-free mince pies, which cost £1.89 for six, have joined £500 jamonero ham sets and £50 artisan Christmas puddings in the upmarket department store’s food halls.
Iceland made a commitment in April to remove palm oil, blamed for deforestation in south east Asia, from own-label ranges by the end of this year.
Selfridges has followed suit, committing to do so by the end of 2019.

“We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to redevelop our mince pies in line with our commitment, and I’m extremely proud of the result,” said Iceland’s head chef Neil Nugent.
“We were determined that no compromises on taste or quality would be made through our palm oil removal project and this year’s mince pies, and Selfridges’ decision to stock them, is proof of that.”
Iceland managing director Richard Walker said: “We are excited that our no-palm-oil mince pies will appear in Selfridges stores. We see this as a real endorsement of our work to remove palm oil.”
Selfridges told The Guardian: “We’re committed to becoming completely palm oil-free by Christmas 2019, so these delicious palm oil-free mince pies by Iceland offer a little taste of what’s to come. For us, there’s no point palming off the inevitable - together we must end deforestation.”
Iceland’s Luxury Mince Pies are on sale in Selfridges stores in London, Manchester and Birmingham.
