Students at Northumbria University's School of Design have solved the packaging waste problem - turn it into clothes.
Seventy third-year fashion degree students took up Warburtons' challenge to turn its wax-paper bread wrappers into garments. The winning design was a retro-style pinafore made entirely of blue wax wrap.
Making clothes from old bread wrappers may seem like an inspired pastime, but if you are considering fashioning your own party dress , think again.
"Like all clothes made of paper the big drawback is that it's flammable and falls apart in the rain," says School of Design senior lecturer Chris Hodge.
"We wouldn't encourage people to try this at home."
