Tesco has introduced new season-fresh English sweetcorn into stores this week that it claims is sweeter than normal because of the weather.
Although the recent lack of rain had reduced yields this season, the sunny conditions meant the product was superior, said Kelly Northcroft, account executive at Barfoots of Botley. "The quality of the corn will be excellent; tasting extra-sweet and very succulent."
Penetration of fresh sweetcorn had increased from 10% to 30% over the past few years, said Tesco.
