A planned strike by 1,200 workers at 2 Sisters Food Group has been called off by union Unite as negotiations with management progress.

The walk out was due to take place tomorrow in a dispute around pay and a proposed seven day working week.

Tomorrow’s strike would have been the second by workers at the Bevan Way and Dial Lane sites in Smethwick, West Bromwich, and the Lincoln Street plant in Wolverhampton.

Unite said the one-day strike set for Friday is still scheduled to go ahead.

“Tomorrow’s strike has been called off so that progress can be made in talks with the management with a view for a fair and equitable settlement.

“Unite won’t be commenting further while these talks continue. However, the 24-hour strike scheduled for this Friday [21 December] is still set to go-ahead,” said regional officer Des Quinn.

A 2 Sisters spokesman said: “We’re pleased that Unite has confirmed it is cancelling the strike planned for tomorrow, which will enable us to continue discussions with Unite and our employees.”
