Bon Bon Buddies has pledged to continue the expansion of its international operation next year.

Over the last six months, the South Wales-based company, which is Europe’s leading supplier of licensed character and branded confectionery, has increased its presence in the Middle East, opening up new markets in Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.

It said its distribution presence in the United Arab Emirates had grown more than 600% over the last 12 months and that it planned to expand into Saudi Arabia and Ukraine from early 2014.

“The Middle East is an important growth market for us,” said MD Chris Howarth.

“People who live there have a high disposable income, a propensity to consume confectionery and are also very familiar with the brands we work with thanks to access to a myriad of satellite TV channels.

“However, Europe is also key and we’ve been working hard to expand our presence further in these mature markets. We now supply products to every market within the EU. Our aim is to increase the proportion of non-UK sales to two thirds of total sales, while investing in technology to develop new sales streams is also on the agenda.
