Greencore Group has reported organic growth well ahead of the market for the past quarter.
Sales for its grocery business were up 6.7% on an organic basis for the 13 weeks to 29 June.
Total group sales were up more than 11%, buoyed by the additions of Uniq and MarketFare Foods, to £287.5m.
“We experienced strong performance in May in the run up to the Jubilee bank holiday, helped by some good weather,” the company said. “But demand in June was impacted by inclement weather conditions.”
The ingredients business grew sales by 5.1% over the period.
“Greencore’s third-quarter trading update continues to show very good progress, despite more challenging grocery headwinds,” said Investec analyst Nicola Mallard.
“It continued to strongly outperform the wider grocery market, delivering organic growth of 6.7% despite some ‘dampening’ effect from the climate – in a literal and economic sense.”
She added: “Real progress is also being made in the US, where acquisitions and new business wins should take this operation into the black next year.”
