AG Barr has reported sales growth ahead of the drinks market in the final three months of 2011.

The Irn-Bru maker said fourth-quarter sales were up 12% compared to the equivalent period the year before, contributing to growth of 6% across the year as a whole.

As well as “consistent long term growth throughout the UK” for its flagship brand, the company said its Rubicon and KA brands had charted growth “well into double digits”.

With full financial results due in March, the company said it had also cut its debt during the year. However, AG Barr warned that it would have to keep a close eye on costs to safeguard margins in 2012.
