Pre-Christmas orders at RH Amar rose 7% due to a growing demand for ‘fine foods’, according to the importer and distributor.
The High Wycombe-based distributor, which supplies more than 40 brands to supermarkets, cash & carries, wholesalers, restaurants and independent retailers, reported strong trading in November and December, with orders in January also showing double-digit growth compared with 2016.
“It appears shoppers are continuing to treat themselves, despite uncertain economic conditions,” said RH Amar managing director Rob Amar.
“This is in line with previous experience during our 70 years of trading. When push comes to shove, people are still keen to trade up, particularly during key periods like Christmas, almost irrespective of the economic environment.”
RH Amar said its company-owned Cooks&Co stuffed vine leaves and Mary Berry-branded dressings and sauces were “key winners” during the period, with sales rising by 38% and 18%, respectively.
“These results are a great way to start the new year for the Mary Berry’s brand and are further evidence of the opportunity that we have to offer retailers looking to grow sales of premium dressings,” said RH Amar brand manager Anne Marie Cannon.
“We have more great plans for 2017 including an exciting new launch, details of which we look forward to unveiling in the very near future.”
