Raspberry growers are reporting year-on-year sales increases of 33% in an expected bumper season.
British Summer Fruits said growers had sold 5,175 tonnes to date compared with 3,900 tonnes this time last year, fuelled by higher production levels and an earlier start to the season in July caused by the mild winter.
These conditions had helped create a better quality, sweeter fruit, said BSF. New glasshouse technology - extending the UK season into October - and new varieties such as BerryJewel had also contributed to growth.
The BSF expects total UK production will grow 25% year on year to about 10,300 tonnes.
