British food producer Symington’s is transferring its noodle production from China to Yorkshire.

The Leeds-based business, the maker of Golden Wonder: The Nation’s Noodle and the Naked Noodle brand, has cancelled its Chinese contracts to move production to its hometown. The plan was to open a factory in the city in August, creating about 50 jobs in the process, said the company.

The move, which comes as many businesses are moving production away from China because of rising Chinese wages and freight costs, would shorten Symington’s supply chain as well as enabling the company to be “more responsive to customer orders at short notice”, said business development director Henrik Pade.

Other brands in the producer’s portfolio are Chicken Tonight, Ragu and Aunt Bessie’s.
