Portuguese cork producers are pooling their resources to fund a E2.5m (£1.58m) research project into the causes of tainted wine.
The wine industry has been plagued by losses caused by by cork taint, usually through a chemical known as TCA.
Launching the initiative at the wine fair, Portuguese Cork Association director Francisco de Brito Evangelista, said: "This demonstrates for the first time that we are dedicating appropriate resources to finding a solution to TCA."
