Nestlé has been ordered to pay out $15m to a nursery school teacher in California after using his photo, without his knowledge, on Taster’s Choice coffee jars since 1986.

Taster’s Choice is the US version of Nescafé and Russell Christoff’s likeness had also been used in the US, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Mexico and South Korea for about six years.

Christoff had worked as a model and had done a two-hour photo shoot for Nestlé in 1986, for which he was paid $250. Nestlé said it believed the company had obtained proper consent and intends to appeal.
