Burton’s Biscuit Co is installing cameras to monitor production as part of a £13.5m investment in its factories.
The technology, commonly used in the car and printing industries, was only just starting to by used by the food industry, said Neil Grocock, Burton’s chief supply chain officer.
The cameras would monitor biscuit size, colour, shape and moisture levels and lead to improved efficiency and reduced waste, he said. “The real benefit will be increased consistency and quality,” he added.
Burton’s is also investing in new equipment for Cadbury Animals, more robots for picking and packing Cadbury Fingers and a kit upgrade for Maryland Cookies.
