Tesco has raised the price of one kilo of loose bananas by 18%, from 67p to 79p.

The move comes after the chain, along with Sainsbury's and Morrisons, last week followed Asda's lead and lowered its banana price to 67p/kg, down from 69p. As The Grocer went to press, Sainsbury's and Morrisons were still selling at 67p, with Waitrose selling at 69p.

Earlier in November, Tesco had stopped the banana price war by raising its price from 55p to 69p, swiftly followed by Waitrose, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. Asda also abandoned the 55p point but raised it to just 67p.
