Tesco has put security tags on cheese following a spike in shoplifting caused by the recession.
The tags are usually used only on high-value items such as alcohol and razors but have also occasionally been used on some expensive meat cuts. The measure has been introduced at the store in Brockworth, Gloucester.
“We have a number of security measures that we enforce in our stores across the UK,” a Tesco spokesman told the Daily Telegraph.
“The decision to use security tags is always made by the manager of the store and tags are used on various items such as bottles of spirits, all at the manager’s discretion.”
