Tesco has teamed up with Australian wine suppliers Brown Brothers and De Bortoli to raise £50,000 to support victims of the Victoria bush fires.

The retailer will donate 50p to the appeal from the sale of each bottle of the two wines.

Although The Brown Brothers' Victoria-based winery was not directly affected, chief executive Ross Brown said the company was close enough to witness the destruction in February.

"There is much we can do as a business to help those less fortunate to recover from this situation, and by teaming up with Tesco, we hope to offer substantial, tangible assistance, enlisting the help of our UK customer base."

The Victoria-based Yarra Valley Wine Growers Association estimated 140 hectares of vineyards were destroyed in the fires.
