Tesco has started participating in the government-backed Green Food Project.

The retailer has been contributing to meetings of the project’s dairy working group by providing feedback on the work it does with producers through its dedicated dairy supply pool, the Tesco Sustainable Dairy Group.

The Green Food Project was launched by Defra last year, with the aim of exploring how Britain’s food and drinks industry can become more competitive and productive while “enhancing the environment”.

It is chaired by food and farming minister Jim Paice and involves industry representatives as well as environmental and consumer bodies.
