April 27, 1991. Canned goods importers and conservationists are in conflict over the financing and operation of the dolphin friendly' tuna agreements. The Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society has accused some elements of the UK tuna industry of lethargy and obstructive burearucracy' in their monitoring of tuna sources. But the importers' association has hit back at the criticism, saying its members are doing all they can to guarantee the source of tuna. The society claimed importers had agreed to pay £75,000 to monitor canners but were now dragging their feet. {{COUNTERPOINT }}
