We asked manufacturers to name the best buyers in the butters and spreads category. Here's their pick

?Vivien Russell, Booths

Russell joined Booths as a non-food buyer in May 2005 and became responsible for dairy in April 2007. She began her retail career at the Co-op, where her buying work covered snacks, biscuits, and pharmacy.

Emma Metcalf-King, Sainsbury's

King started at Sainsbury's as menswear buyer in 1998 after stints at Sears and Arcadia. She was a meat buyer for the Co-op before becoming Sainsbury's senior dairy buyer in 2006.

Peter Seabrook, MBL

Seabrook has worked for MBL since 2006 when he was appointed trading manager for butter and spreads, fresh juice, cooked meats, pies and cheese. Before Musgrave, he worked for Sainsbury's and Brake Brothers.

Nick Slater, Nisa-Today's

Slater joined Nisa-Today's 15 years ago as a buying controller for chilled foods and is now business manager for chilled foods. Prior to joining Nisa, Slater spent 12 years with the Co-operative Manchester heading dairy.

Jonathan Buckley, The Co-op

Buckley has worked for the Co-operative Group for seven years, starting as category marketing manager for frozen foods, then buyer for grocery edibles. He has now moved from dairy buyer to ready meals.

Robbie James, Waitrose

She joined JLP in 1974 as a department store trainee. At Waitrose she has worked in buying for horticulture and confectionery and became dairy buyer in September 2007.
