The Co-operative Group has extended the range of foods sourced from its own farms into meat for the first time, with the launch of a new Reared by Us range.

The move follows the success of the Grown by Us range, which includes products such as cider, honey, flour, onions, carrots, strawberries and peas.

The first product sold will be free-range bronze turkeys, reared on The Co-operative Farms.

The introduction of turkeys follows a trial last year involving a small number of birds that were reared and given to staff. "Feedback was that they were the tastiest turkey they had ever eaten, so this year we've reared a lot more," said Christine Tacon, managing director of The Co-operative Farms.

The turkeys will be on sale in stores from today, priced at £45 for a 5kg bird. "Bronze turkeys are fantastic and a worthy addition to our Grown by Us range," said Tacon.
