The Co-operative Group has recruited its six million members for a major store acquisition search, just days after snapping up Scottish c-store chain David Sands.
Under The Co-op’s Suggest A Site scheme, members of its famous dividend card can earn £500 in shopping vouchers if they identify a location or property that is turned into a The Co-op Group food store.
“We want our members to be our eyes and ears so we can identify the right properties in the right locations at the heart of local communities,” said Stuart Hookins, head of portfolio strategy, acquisitions and disposals for The Co-op’s food business.
“They can fill in a form on the members’ website and if we open a store there they could receive £500 in The Co-operative shopping vouchers.”
Suggest A Site comes two months after The Co-op Group declared it was “back on the acquisition trail with a vengeance” after integrating Somerfield into its business.
The society has opened 14 stores in the past five weeks and has a further 20 planned. It aims to open 300 in three years.
