The Co-operative Group is trialling the sale of bulk-buy household cleaning products on its The Co-operative Electrical website.
The society has listed 36 products from Procter & Gamble’s biggest household cleaning brands Ariel, Bold, Flash, Fairy, Daz and Lenor on the site. It is currently offering free delivery on all products and £5 off all orders over £40.
The products are listed by brand and, as well as listing the price, the site also displays the ‘normal price’ of the product and the saving available by buying in bulk. Some of the biggest savings include £16 off Fairy ADW Pouches at £43.97 for a pack of three; £14.18 off a two-pack of Fairy Non Bio Powder (80 washes); and £13.26 off a two-pack of Bold 2 in 1 Powder Lavender and Camomile (80 washes), at £31.48.
The move is understood to be the first time the society has offered bulk buys direct to shoppers. “This is a trial on bulk buys being run with The Co-operative Electrical,” a spokeswoman from The Co-op Group confirmed.
The Co-operative Retail Trading Group already acts as supplier for independent co-op societies in the UK.
The co-operative movement is also no stranger to bulk buying. Research conducted earlier this year by Co-operatives UK claimed there had been an increase in so-called ‘co-operative bulk buying’ in the UK, with more than a quarter of shoppers claiming to buy in bulk with others to take advantage of better deals.
