UK retailers have seen a 4% year on year lift in the average retail price of bacon to £4.83/kg, according for Taylor Nelson Sofres Superpanel data for January to August. The bacon market is worth £760m ­ and the biggest year on year gain was in CAP rashers (+8.9%). These saw 3% gains in value and volume sales over the January to August period. CAP has a share of more than 40% of the rasher market, which is 60% of the TNS retail bacon sample. Only bacon joints fell back from an already low level by just over 5% to an average retail of £3.42.
