VP merchandising, Asda

Last ranked: 22

Asda’s vice president of merchandising has been given a key role leading a beefed up trading department as part of the jobs shake-up announced last month.

It sees his trading department assume full control of many functions previously shared with marketing and distribution, where many staff went out the door.

His main task will be turning around the woeful recent sales figures of Asda, as well as trying to get the struggling giant closer to the discounters on price. And he will be one of the surviving execs anticipating the impact of former Sainsbury’s retail and operations director Roger Burnley, who joins as COO in October.
