More than four million bottles of wine and cider a day will be shipped from this bonded warehouse in Avonmouth as the festive season gets into full swing. The complex, operated by Constellation Europe, which owns the Hardys, Banrock Station and Stowells brands, is the largest of its kind in Europe. It holds nearly 24 million bottles of wine, and through December and January staff at the centre will distribute 1.5 million cases a week to cope with demand.

"Our warehouse and logistics team do a fantastic job especially at this time of year," said John Steels, Constellation Europe senior vice president. "They ensure our customers and their consumers get the wines and other drinks they will enjoy over the festive season."

The company is building an even larger warehouse near the existing site, due for completion in 2009. The new complex will include a bottling line, which will allow the company to ship wines in bulk and bottle them in the UK, a cheaper and greener method than transporting bottled wine.
