Scottish salmon farmers can add value through breeding techniques delivering superior fish, according to Landcatch Natural Selection.
The egg and smolt producer provides methods that improve harvest quality and shorten the production cycle.
Breeding techniques can also heighten disease resistance. And the issue of the high volume of fish meal and oil needed to grow farmed salmon can be addressed by breeding fish more suited to using a vegetable diet.
Said chief executive John Ralph: “We see the Scottish industry as moving to stock improvements through very specialist breeding.”
