The first shipment of Israeli new potatoes has arrived in the UK. Major importers Agrexco and Mehadrin Tnuport Export say they are looking forward to a bumper year after the poor season for most European crops.
"We'll send 8,000 tonnes to Tesco and Asda this year," said Yaron Szilas, UK account manager for Mehadrin. "There's a general belief this season will be great for exports from Israel. They're talking about a record year for Israeli potatoes with prices up to match."
