Sir; re your Marketing article Microwaveable cod piece' (The Grocer, May 25, p46), in which it was claimed that "Marr Foods has brought the fish supper into the technological age­". For the record, Thistle Seafoods, which prior to January 1 this year was Connors Seafoods, developed a microwaveable range of fish products in early 2000 which were launched in 2001 in Sainsbury's Scottish stores under our MacAndrews brand. As I am sure you can see from the dates I am quoting here, Thistle Seafoods was clearly the first company to be in the market with microwaveable branded seafoods products that have the same eating quality as oven baked.
