Waitrose has promoted Rupert Thomas to director of marketing and brand development.

Thomas has held roles including central fruit buyer and central buyer for home baking, condiments, spices and packet sauce, sugar, pasta, rice and pulses at the retailer. He has also managed buying for canned fish and meat, oils, pickles and dressings.

He replaces Suzanna Duke who becomes director of ambient buying and head of brand development and innovation.

Duke took the role of director of marketing in 2007, following the departure of Christian Cull.
