Chocolate maker Thorntons has reported disappointing Christmas sales with a like-for-like decline of 0.5% in the four weeks to January 8.

But despite the poor Christmas trading, the company’s sales for the 28 weeks to January 8 rose 9.5% to £119.7m.

The company also recorded a 270% increase on its products sold by third parties.
