Thorntons slashed its transaction times by two thirds over the Christmas period after installing technology to provide a near real-time view of sales data, improve service and cut queues.

Under the deal with Torex Retail, which is worth more than £800,000, it has kitted out 380 stores with 900 Torex PoS solutions.

"Our previous PoS system was more than 10 years old, and its limited functionality was beginning to restrict the level of customer service we have always been known for," said Thorntons head of IT Steve Harris.
