Thorntons is hoping to replicate the success of its Moments range with a new Melts line aimed at achieving a bigger chunk of the sharing category.

Melts, rolling into Thorntons stores, supermarkets and c-stores now, is a milk chocolate shell with praline centre in a 200g box (rsp: £3.99). It is the latest twist-wrap chocolate from Thorntons, which went head to head with Nestlé's Quality Street and Cadbury Roses last year when it launched Moments, which has clocked up more than £10m in its first year [Nielsen].

"Melts will drive growth in the sharing sector and challenge established brands," said sales and operations director Barry Bloomer.

Thorntons has also extended its Easter portfolio with three lines, including a praline-filled impulse egg (rsp: 69p), and it has introduced more colourful packaging for its existing eggs.
