UK chocolate retailer Thorntons has reported higher-than-expected full-year profits of £7m for the 52 weeks to 26 June, compared to £6.4m a year ago.

The company noted that the 25% jump in annual profit was attributed to new ranges and a move to sell its products through other retailers.

Sales were boosted by the relaunch of Thorntons’ Continental boxed chocolate as well as a range of new products.

Turnover for the company increased 6.9% to £178.7m from £167.1m a year earlier. Like-for-like sales were up 2.6% compared to 0.9% last year.
