Thorntons has renewed its partnership with henna tattoo artist Ash Kumar to design a new box of chocolates for the Indian festivals of Eid and Diwali.

Kumar designed boxes for the new Chocolate Collection, a 283g selection of 28 alcohol- and gluten-free chocolates, in time for the first Eid later in the month. They have already gone on sale in 39 Thorntons shops and 150 Tesco stores.

“Confectionery gifting is a big part of the Eid and Diwali festivals and the grocers wanted something a little more special for these seasons,” said Thorntons’ head of commercial, Peter Lawson.

Lawson said Kumar was a natural choice for Thorntons as a designer because henna plays such a big role in the celebrations. The artist previously worked with Thorntons to produce the Classics box for Diwali last year.

For the Diwali festival this year, Thorntons is launching a 600g jar of Moments chocolates and a 660g Classic Collection box in mid-September.
