Specialist chocolate retailer Thorntons has reported sales growth of 8.5% to £52.4m for the 14 weeks to 19 April.

Own-store sales rose 5.1% to £33.8m during the period, with like-for-like sales growth of 0.5%, while franchise sales rose 12.6% to £3.6m. Commercial sales rose 14.5% to £12.8m.

“In line with other manufacturers and retailers, we have seen increased costs marginally ahead of our expectations,” said CEO Mike Davies. “We are confident we will deliver a satisfactory outcome for the full year.”
