Specialist chocolate retailer Thorntons has reported a 5.3% increase in full-year sales to £186m.

Like-for-like sales rose 0.8% for the full-year and by 7.2% in the 11 weeks to 30 June, boosted by an improved product range and in store activity, the retailer said in a trading update.

“We have continued to make good progress in all sales channels following the difficult start to the year,” said CEO Mike Davies. “Own store like-for-like sales growth of 7.2% remains a solid achievement and underlines the progress made in the delivery of our sales and marketing led strategy.”
