Speciality cheesemaker Butlers is bringing out three new Blacksticks cheeses.

From April, White, Silk and Velvet versions will join its existing Blacksticks Blue. Blacksticks White was similar to Blacksticks Blue but milder to appeal to a wider number of consumers, said Butlers.

Blacksticks Silk is a goats milk cheese with a silky texture and a peppery flavour.

Blacksticks Velvet is made from sheeps milk and is being launched following a four-week trial in Marks & Spencer stores last November.

As imports became more expensive, the new varieties would help fill a gap in the market for semi-soft British blue cheese, said Butlers.

As well as lovers of fine cheeses, the extended offer would appeal to younger, contemporary consumers who usually bought St Agur, Dolcelatte and Roquefort, predicted the company.
