The chocolate industry has bowed to pressure from anti- slavery groups and agreed to establish certification so manufacturers can attach no slave labour' labels. Pressure has been mounting for the industry to address allegations that Ivory Coast labourers were working in conditions tantamount to slavery. As part of a new global chocolate industry plan, manufacturers have also promised to keep closer tabs on working conditions in West Africa. The US Chocolate Manufacturers' Association said it was still not clear what assurances would be required from manufacturers. The industry had set itself a timetable of four years to get the system up and running. {{NEWS }}
